What is The Knot?
The Knot offers a robust suite of wedding planning tools for engaged couples.
What’s this project about?
We see a big opportunity to improve the wedding website editor, which has not kept pace with industry standards.
This free feature is incredibly important to the business, as it is the top way folks discover The Knot, and the top reason couples make an account.
Editing “in preview” allows users to make edits more quickly, easily and anchors the experience in the best part of the project - a beautiful, personalized website.
The existing editor
Couples were expected to primarily use the website dashboard to add and style content, as shown here.

We reduced scope by utilizing existing structures and patterns for the edit in preview experience.
The new editor

Satisfying and intuitive visual focus
One stop shop editing menu
Simplified header for focused workspace
Added in missing functionality

I designed custom updates for each of the 10+ editing views.
We added a "Settings" tab for each page's editing panel, making it easier to control things like who can access the page, including for online RSVP. Couples had been contacting CX when struggling to find these options.

This project resulted in a 12% increase to engagement, and a 1.9% increase to adoption over a 5 week period.
In our next iteration, we'll focus on a number of functional upgrades, styling improvements, as well as adding in those connections to our value centers.
